Asana Onishi is a solo pianist, chamber musician, and teacher based in Los Angeles, California. She has performed extensively throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.

Asana holds a Master’s degree in Piano Performance from Northwestern University, where she studied under renowned pianist José Ramón Méndez, and her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan, where she studied with Christopher Harding. Additionally, she has studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany, with Gilead Mishory, as well as at the USC pre-college studio under Bernadine Blaha and The Colburn Academy with John Perry.

Asana made her concerto debut at the age of 11 with the Los Angeles Bach Orchestra during the 74th Annual Los Angeles Bach Festival in 2007. Since then, she has continued to perform and compete, where she was a finalist in the Seattle International Piano Competition and winning first place at both the Liszt International Competition and the Weatherford International Competition in 2020.

She has received top prizes in the MTAC California State Solo Competition and the American Protégé International Competition, performing at the Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, New York. In the summer of 2018, she toured Japan, presenting duo, chamber, and solo concerts in Osaka, Nara, and Tokyo.

Asana has been teaching private piano lessons since 2010. She was a teaching assistant at the University of Michigan, as well as an instructor at Northwestern University for the Music Academy.
